Roslyn, NY is about 10 - 15 minutes away from Great Neck which is where Great Neck Maids originated from. Since we quickly catapulted as a leader in the house cleaning industry due to our high quality cleaning at reasonable rates, it was natural for Roslyn residents to take notice and make us their official maid service as well, so much so that we are also known as The Official Maids Of Roslyn.
Roslyn is a beautiful neighborhood in which we do our part in maintaining its beauty by keeping its homes and offices clean. It is an affluent neighborhood with modern luxurious houses as well as beautifully restored houses, buildings and historical monuments. Most of the historical real estate is mainly located in the Main Street Historic District of Roslyn in which much of the real estate there was built in the 19th century before the Civil War, which took place from 1861 - 1865.
Roslyn was settled in the mid 1600s by European settlers in the Main Street area when Roslyn was initially called Hempstead Harbor which was later changed to Roslyn in 1884 due to postal confusion from the the other towns named Hempstead in Long Island.
In 1790, on his first year of presidency, George Washington visited a Roslyn resident named Hendrick Onderdonk in Roslyn and spent some time with him there. George Washington stayed in Roslyn for several days to set out on a tour of Long Island, in which he kept account of in his diary.
Hendrick Onderdonk was a entrepreneur that took over Roslyn's first gristmill in the 1750s and had opened up Long Island's first paper mill in Roslyn in 1773. Due to the work the community has done in preserving history it is said that the property where George Washington stayed in, Hendrick Onderdonk's former home, the gristmill and the paper mill he opened up back in the 1700s still exist today whether or not it is used for a different function than what it was used for in the past.
Another historical landmark in Roslyn is the Ellen Ward Memorial Clock Tower. It was built in 1895 of random ashlar granite and limestone trim. It is on a roughly triangular shaped area beautifully situated on Main Street, East Broadway and Old Northern Boulevard surrounded by hills with homes and businesses. It has become one of Roslyn's most visible local landmarks.
Roslyn is a wonderful place to live and raise a family as they have a great school district, a strong sense of community and a commitment to preservation.
Roslyn consist of Roslyn Heights, Roslyn Estates, Roslyn Harbor, East Hills, Searingtown, Greenvale and parts of Flower Hill.
Now, here in the 21st century Great Neck Maids has a mission to eventually make a mark in Roslyn's history by not just being some of Roslyn's residents maid service, but for being The Official Maids Of Roslyn for all of Roslyn's residents through hard work, determination and the willingness to make our customers 100% satisfied 100% of the time.
